No-exam life insurance
What gets you approved for expedited underwriting, how the process works, and what happens if you don't qualify.
Modern carriers increasingly provide streamlined underwriting: applicants within specific age brackets and coverage thresholds can receive approval using your application answers, prescription records, motor-vehicle history and other data, bypassing a paramedical exam. Decisions sometimes arrive within 24 hours. Each quote on this site shows whether an exam is needed, may be needed, or is not expected for that specific product.
What it changes
Waiving a medical exam doesn't mean waiving a thorough review. Your statements are checked, and any policy issued based on misleading information can be challenged in the first two years. If the carrier identifies concerns in their data review, they may still ask for testing; at that point, you can choose whether to move forward.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, applicants under age 60, seeking coverage amounts up to the carrier's approval limit, with a clean health background and no nicotine use during the prior year. Recent bloodwork from a medical visit sometimes substitutes for a new paramedical exam with some carriers.
If an exam becomes necessary, the process usually involves a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedical technician, conducted at your residence or workplace in the Ceres community, at no cost. Exam outcomes frequently result in a better rate classification for applicants in good health, so the requirement isn't necessarily a drawback.
